Capstan Phase 2

Located north of the future extension of Hazelbridge Way and East of Sexsmith Road and part of Capstan Village. This mixed-use development consists of 26 townhouses and 319 units in 3 mid-rise towers surrounding an internal courtyard at level 5. The towers are organized to maintain an 80’ separation while maximizing solar penetration into the internal courtyard. A 3 storey, 15,375 sq ft Early Childhood Development Hub including Daycare is located at ground level on Carscallen Road adjacent to the Neighourhood Park, facilitating park use.  A retail and gallery component focuses on the cul-de-sac, which in time will complement the future hotel envisaged for Phase 4.

The architectural expression is driven by multiple factors which when integrated create an attractive and identifiable image for the City Centre District.  These factors include: scale, materiality and solar exposure. Using these factors, the building’s massing is layered both vertically and horizontally to introduce variety at the street level and a strong form from the distance.  The layering effect also creates a strong individual character while also integrating the building into the Arts Community.  The use of colour reflects the vibrancy of the Arts community and acts as wayfinding and identity making for the different towers.
